Parking: Parking at the premises is not allowed however lots of parking available in the residential area behind the venue.

Adaptive Response Theory: A biopsychosocial approach to art therapy... Dr Girija Kaimal at the International Art Therapy Practice/Research Conference

"At this pioneering inaugural conference, I am looking forward to meeting art therapists from around the world to better understand how we need to re-imagine the scope of the field from clinical, educational and research perspectives." Dr Girija Kaimal on the Inaugural Conference in July...

At the plenary panel on art therapy and neuroscience Dr Girija Kaimal will present a framework of art therapy founded on our current understanding of physiological and psychological responses to challenges and stressors. Using examples of research studies from her lab as well as scholarship on the role of art in human development, this presentation will highlight how this Adaptive Response Theory of art therapy can be integrated into research and practice, to better serve patients and clients.

In addition, on a panel with colleagues from Creative Forces, she will share their research on short term and long term art therapy interventions with active duty military service members.

Dr Girija Kaimal, (EdD, MA, ATR-BC) is Assistant Professor in the PhD Program in Creative Arts Therapies at the Drexel University College of Nursing and Health Professions. In her Health, Arts, Learning and Evaluation (HALE) research lab, she examines physiological and psychological outcomes of creative visual self-expression. Girija currently leads studies examining arts-based approaches to health among cancer caregivers, active duty military service members and veterans (Currently funded by the US Department of Defense and the National Endowment for the Arts).  She has led longitudinal evaluation research studies examining arts-based approaches to school leadership development and teacher incentives, and, won national awards for her research. Girija serves on the Board of Directors of the American Art Therapy Association as well as several arts and heath journals and, is a practicing visual artist. Her art explores the intersection of identity and representation of emotion. More details on her work are available here

International Seminar on Creative Arts Therapies, WCC, Chennai.

The psychology department of Women's Christian College (WCC) conducted an International Seminar on Creative Arts Therapies in Chennai on 29th and 30th January, 2019.

The inauguration was led by Prof. Paul P Appasamy, President, WCC Association, Ms. Lilian J Jasper, Principal, Dr. Padmavati R, Chief Guest, Ms. Sangeeta Prasad, Art Therapist and Keynote Speaker, and Ms. Veena Easvardoss, Head, Department of Psychology.

The seminar was very productive with the contribution of speakers like Anshuma Kshetrapal, drama and movement psychotherapist, Bhaktiveda Dhaul Taragi, expressive arts therapist, Brinda Jacob-Janvrij, movement-based expressive arts therapist, Haseena Manipal, psychodrama practitioner, Nina Cherla, clinical music therapist, Sajani V, clinical psychologist, Sowmya Srinivasan, Soul Space Storyteller and Tripura Kashyap, movement therapist. Even after days, what they shared with us is engraved in our minds.

Indian International Institute for Art Therapy and Research (IiiART) together with the Canadian International Institute of Art Therapy (CiiAT) will offer an experiential workshop based on Lucille’s work. Lucille is an expert in the field of Art Therapy and Attachment Theory.

Now 87 years old, Lucille Proulx has been an artist and art therapist for more than five decades and is a proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is the Executive Director of the Canadian International Institute of Art Therapy, and the Proulx Global Education and Community Foundation.

She is also the Executive Director of the International Program of Art Therapy in Thailand (IPATT) and the Japan International Program of Art Therapy (JIPAT). Seventeen years ago, she published a book with Jesica Kingsley Publishers Ltd, "Strengthening Emotional Ties through Parent-Child-Dyad Art Therapy," which describes an interesting and innovative art therapy approach. Since that time, she has experienced continued success in her professional work.

Lucille Proulx's new book "Attachment Informed Art Therapy: Strengthening Emotional Ties Throughout the Lifetime" is now available on Amazon.
